I feel McGuinn is indeed a legend. But he nowhere near has the status of a Lennon/McCartney or a Jagger/Richards, while the Byrds as a band do come closer to the status the Beatles and the Stones enjoy. Unfortunately McGuinn is soley a household name among music lovers, not so much amongst the general public. His later solo career suffered as a consequence. McGuinn admitted as much himself.SoulBoogieAlexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00166276731612362941noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7642032278032679287.post-39259058131125998322009-06-08T22:29:24.041-07:002009-06-08T22:29:24.041-07:00I have to dispute this blog.......your dismissiven...I have to dispute this blog.......your dismissiveness of Roger McGuinn here is unbelievable really. You failed to mention that the Byrds first covered Goin Back in 1967 on the "Notorious Byrd Brothers" album....8 years before Springsteen did it. Every show I saw was so awesome, that no one wanted to let go of that moment. People were screaming BROOOOOCE!!! including me.I was thinking they were saying BOOOO! He played sax and doubled on bass guitar.A few yrs.later,I joined them, playing drums. It was a dream come true, and A total BLAST to perform with the band, and to perform alongside my bro. I saw Bruce in 1975 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, and was instantly HOOKED! DUUH! The third time I saw Bruce[Born in the USA],I was looking at the concert program. I came across Bruce's profile, and among his musical influences were the Swingin' Medallions! I about fell off my seat! At another show, I took an old Medallion sweatshirt with me.I ran to the stage and threw it onstage. Little Steve Van Zant caught it and held it up for all to see, then ran backstage to the dressing room. And after the last encore, they played Double Shot.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05215653060351428733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7642032278032679287.post-33259057588996251332009-03-10T21:23:00.000-07:002009-03-10T21:23:00.000-07:00Thanks for posting the original version by The Vib...Thanks for posting the original version by The Vibrations, it’s very difficult to find this version anywhere. FIRST, you d...People like you really take the cake. FIRST, you don't UNDERSTAND the "religious context" and then you twist the song OUT of context to fit your own interpretations. If Albert Brumley were alive to read your words of Springsteen's interpretation, he would probably turn over in his grave.

Well might I turn Born in the USA into a song glorifying George Bush for his invasion of Iraq and all the little children that he and the troops saved from the butchery of Saddam Hussein. Put that into you and the "Boss's" anti-american leftist diatribes about the Vietnam war and SMOKE IT.

Maybe I'll set up a blog to start "reinterpreting" Springsteen's music into songs of praise for the glories of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Or maybe you could STOP taking stuff out of the Christian context in which they were written and write your own flippin' music.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7642032278032679287.post-42574085235713393582009-02-16T13:31:00.000-08:002009-02-16T13:31:00.000-08:00I heard the Joe Jones version on Bob Dylan's Theme...I heard the Joe Jones version on Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour.
